Purpose of Role:             

Provide accurate and timely tax services to clients and colleagues, supporting the overall tax and accounting service offering through managing and developing the tax team and ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently and on time.

Encourage and develop ideas on process improvement to ensure our clients are serviced to the highest standard, as well as acting as an ambassador of the brand to attract new clients and maintain existing clients to support growth ambitions.


  • Complete tax and business advisory assignments for clients to the highest standard.
  • Agree timeframes for all work to ensure deadlines are met and excellent client service is maintained.
  • Work with the department heads to provide support to clients, including ad-hoc projects.
  • Work with the department heads to ensure efficiencies are maintained and processes are continually developed so that excellent client service is maintained.
  • Coach and assist members of the team with tax calculations, R&D, Patent Box, and any other services which the tax team may undertake.
  • Help train and develop the overall capability of the team to enable MPA to build on the services it offers.
  • Train colleagues (from other departments) on aspects of tax as required to build capability in the business.
  • Delegate work to junior members of the team to build business capability and capacity.
  • Review tax computations and business advisory assignments prepared by junior members of the team.
  • Understand client needs (including sector, industry, and economy) and their expectations so that you can start to build relationships and identify opportunities for work.
  • Meet with clients to build relationships and identify opportunities for new work.
  • Keep the department Head up to date with regards to client service, capacity, staff development, training, and any concerns to ensure timely intervention as appropriate.
  • Ensure accounting and tax standards are followed and that you are aware of these standards. This is to ensure that MPA’s ACCA accreditation is maintained and the service we are providing is to the highest standard and policy, process, best practice, and legal compliance is observed.
  • Maintain and keep up to date internal systems (PeopleHR, my working papers, IRIS, Xero, Hubspot, Hubdocs) and any other software or monitoring spreadsheets used within MPA. This includes ensuring it is done in a timely manner, is complete and is accurate so that information is available and reportable effectively and efficiently.
  • Complete appropriate CPD to remain technically up to date and meet the requirements of ACCA, ACA, CIOT, ATT or other regulatory body and maintain a record of this.
  • Work with Department head and managers to look for ways to improve and share technical knowledge.
  • Prepare articles etc for marketing to build your own, the departments and MPA’s brand and technical expertise.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Professional expertise:
    •  Experience of providing corporate tax services, including R&D, Patent Box, capital allowances etc.
    • Have a strong technical knowledge (e.g. ACCA, ACA, CIOT, ATT)
    • Have good knowledge of UK tax legislation.
    • Understand client service needs and be able to liaise with clients as appropriate.
    • Experience of providing support to clients.
    • Experience of helping team members, sharing knowledge, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Organisational skills – personal efficiency, time management skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
  • Staff Management – experience of helping members of the team.
  • Communication skills –
    • ability to engage at all levels both verbally and in writing utilising a variety of channels.
    • The ability to spot opportunities and build client relationships.
  • Systems – good knowledge and experience of accounting/tax software and other operational software (word, excel, power point).
  • Working style – able to work independently and demonstrate initiative as well as in a team providing support across all levels.
