MPA compete at Squeaky Bone Race 2017
MPA entered this year’s Squeaky Bone Race on Sunday 1st October, hosted by Olney Runners. A four person, cross country relay race in Olney which lasts either 3.5 or 2.3 miles per competitor. The race is hugely popular, with this year’s event attracting 160 teams. We are very happy to say that this year we entered not only one but two teams, ensuring a good representation of MPA at the event.
The race is held to recognise Olney’s history for lace making, where the poor would use bone bobbins to keep them from ending up in the workhouses. The name of the race comes from the lace makers using the bone bobbins to “squeak by” on their limited income, using the bone bobbins they would make.
On the day we are happy to say both of our teams finished the race, with all our runners having a good showing in muddy conditions. More than that, everyone who raced enjoyed themselves and are all inspired to continue running to improve on their personal bests.

I really enjoyed the race, the large crowd was great! The support of the MPA team, spectators and the other runners pushed me to run my best. I will definitely be running again next year.
MPA in the local area
Our participation is just one of the many examples in which The MPA takes part in community activities in order to positively impact the local area and the people who live here. We also sponsor one of the Olney flowerbeds which help to keep the town in full colour throughout the year.
Congratulations to all the runners involved, especially our MPA team members Mike, Damien, Wendy, Paul, Talitha, Aji, David and Steven.
