We are thrilled to hear that with the support of the local Northampton community, foundation volunteers, Barclays, MPA and Approved Business Finance, Northampton Saint’s Foundation has raised a staggering £51,392.75 and counting!
Northampton Saints Foundation has been the MPA charity of choice for a few years and we extended our support by sponsoring the third annual Foundation Day. This was the charity’s biggest fundraising event of the year which took place on Saturday 25 February, with the Gallagher Premiership clash between Northampton Saints vs Gloucester, resulting in a Saint’s victory.
Foundation Day Highlights
Over 10,000 people attended the matchday, where fundraising activities took place to raise awareness and important funds for the foundation. Fans received a warm welcome from non-playing players and volunteers in the Supporter Village. Players grabbed selfies with fans and signed items for donations. Foundation Day flags, popcorn, specially commissioned posters and MPA-branded refillable water bottles were handed out whilst volunteers sold raffle tickets. Northampton Saints team showed their support by wearing Foundation branded warm-up and match day shirts.
It was empowering to see the young foundation students not only get involved in all the activities throughout the day but also lead the Saint’s players onto the field before the game. All the students attend local schools that have benefitted from the Foundation’s primary school education programmes – including Values, Premiership Rugby Champions Tackling Health, Character or Numeracy.
At half-time, representatives from Approved Business Finance and MPA put their best shooting boots on and went head-to-head to see who could kick the ball over the posts. Both teams made an impressive four successful kicks each, netting an additional £1000 for the Foundation. Foundation ambassador and former England international Tom Wood stepped up to the tee to take a final ‘double or nothing’ kick and boosted the amount given to the charity by an additional £1000.
A big thank you to all the local Northampton community, foundation volunteers, Barclays, MPA, and Approved Business Finance who helped and contributed throughout the day. Lucy Sanderson, Volunteer from MPA said:
This was my first time volunteering at the Northampton Saints Foundation Day. It was such a fun day and seeing the comradery of all the volunteers, Saints players and visitors getting involved raising the all-important funds was great. My highlight was volunteering alongside some of the Foundation students, it really hit home how important the work that the foundation does and the impact it has on supporting the local community. Raising over £50k was absolutely amazing!
Over one hundred volunteers got involved on the day, a massive thanks to everyone who helped and contributed.
